Bridgepoint Education and Ashford University Employees Give Back to the San Diego Community on Heroes Day
Volunteer event brings nearly 200 employees together to clean up the San Diego River
Employees from Bridgepoint Education and one of its academic institutions, Ashford University, came together on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 24 to clean up the San Diego River in Mission Valley. Nearly 200 employees took part in the event, which was the second of the organization’s biannual “Heroes Day” volunteer efforts in 2015. Making this event even more special, the Bridgepoint and Ashford volunteers were joined by local Ashford students who also wanted to give back to the San Diego community.
On Heroes Day, Bridgepoint Education and Ashford University teamed up with the San Diego River Park Foundation to take part in the Foundation’s Clean Sweep event. The Clean Sweep is the Foundation’s biggest river cleanup of the year. In addition to the Bridgepoint and Ashford volunteers, more than 500 other individuals helped to clean the river at four different locations. The volunteers removed trash from the river and helped to landscape around the river.
“The Heroes Day tradition at Bridgepoint Education has always been about giving back to the communities we serve and trying to make the world a better place through local volunteer efforts,” said Andrew Clark, CEO at Bridgepoint Education. “It is a philosophy that has been embraced by our employees, who have consistently supported Heroes Day over the years and sought out other opportunities to help out in the community.”
This was the tenth Heroes Day event that Bridgepoint Education has organized over the past five years. In April of this year, Bridgepoint and Ashford employees joined Ashford students to volunteer at the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank. Previous Heroes Day volunteer activities in San Diego have included refurbishing the Mary Fay Pendleton School and Marshall Elementary School, building bikes for underprivileged youth at the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Center, and cleaning Balboa Park, Ruffin Canyon, and Chollas Lake Park.
