Volunteers from Bridgepoint Education and Ashford University Clean up San Diego's Ruffin Canyon
Hundreds of employees and their families participated in the volunteer effort

Volunteers from Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI) and Ashford University spent Saturday, June 9, restoring Ruffin Canyon in Serra Mesa. Hundreds of employees and their families teamed up with San Diego Canyonlands to pick up trash, remove weeds, mulch and beautify the canyon.

“This was a great opportunity for Bridgepoint Education and Ashford University to give back to the community where we live and work by donating our time, energy and resources,” said Andrew Clark, chief executive officer at Bridgepoint Education. “Our dedication to enriching lives extends beyond our office walls. The impressive volunteer turnout is a testament to that sentiment as well as to the quality of the individuals we employ.”

Last October, more than 200 San Diego-based Bridgepoint Education, Ashford University and University of the Rockies employees painted John Marshall Elementary School in Chollas Creek.

“We are very thankful for generous corporations like Bridgepoint Education who have the ability to make a giant impact on the efforts to restore the natural habitats of San Diego canyons, making them a safe and clean place for the neighborhood to enjoy,” said Eric Bowlby, executive director of San Diego Canyonlands.  "This event has really bolstered the efforts of the Ruffin Canyon Friends Group that works hard to take care of the vast open spaces of their neighborhood canyon.”

The mission of San Diego Canyonlands is to promote, protect and restore the natural habitats in San Diego County canyons and creeks by fostering education and ongoing community involvement.
