Bridgepoint Underwrites Needs of School Children with Food 4 Kids Backpack Program
Gift supports military families at Mary Fay Pendleton Elementary and Stuart Mesa Elementary

With its support of the Food 4 Kids backpack program, Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI) has taken a step to help underfed children of U.S. military service members. Every week, 50 San Diego area school kids from Mary Fay Pendleton Elementary and Stuart Mesa Elementary will travel home with backpacks full of a weekend’s worth of nutrition.

Administered by the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank, this donation is targeted directly to children at Mary Fay Pendleton Elementary and Stuart Mesa Elementary – both schools serve military families. The three pillars of Bridgepoint Education’s philanthropic activity are education, youth and the military, so this gift was an ideal opportunity to satisfy all three.

“While parents in the military sacrifice to serve our country, their kids can be put in a tough position by circumstances beyond their control,” stated Jennifer Love Bruce, Bridgepoint Education’s director of community relations. “With this donation, we can help feed local children and lighten the burden on the soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors who are also their parents. It’s a win-win.”

The children who benefit from the Food 4 Kids program are selected by school administrators, and the meals are subtly placed in their homeward-bound schoolbags prior to the weekend.
