University of the Rockies Named to the 2012 List of Military Friendly Schools by G.I. Jobs Magazine

University of the Rockies, an academic institution owned by Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI), has been recognized on the 2012 List of Military Friendly Schools by G.I. Jobs magazine. The annual list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools doing the most to embrace America’s military service members and veterans as students.

“The Military Friendly Schools list is the go-to resource for prospective student veterans searching for schools that provide the right overall experience,” said Michael Dakduk, executive director for the Student Veterans of America. “Nothing is more compelling than actual feedback from current student veterans.”

The G.I. Jobs list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled by polling more than 8,000 schools in the nation using criteria, methodology and weighting developed by an Academic Advisory Board. Schools on the list offer scholarships and discounts, veterans’ clubs, full-time staff, military credit and other services to those who served in the military.

University of the Rockies offers its military students financial benefits such as the Post-9/11 GI Bill, the Yellow Ribbon Program, Active Duty Military Tuition Grants, and book benefits. Recently, the University was named a Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC) institution, allowing it to award academic transfer credit for graduate-level equivalent military training and job experience.

“As a former Marine, I am highly sensitive to the challenges our armed forces face – both in the line of duty and as they pursue higher education,” said Dr. Charlita Shelton, president of University of the Rockies. “I’m proud of this recognition and of the assistance and the opportunities we’re able to provide these men and women.”
