Bridgepoint Education Sends 28 San Diego Students to Sixth Grade Camp

Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI), a provider of post-secondary education services focused on providing higher access to higher education, has partnered with the San Diego County Office of Education (SDCOE) to send 28 underprivileged students to Sixth Grade Camp.

Bridgepoint Education’s donation of $10,000 will be used to pay expenses for students at Foussatt Elementary School in the Oceanside Unified School District. Many of the students at Foussatt are the children of active-duty military and would not be able to afford camp without Bridgepoint’s sponsorship.

“A lot of us have fond memories of attending Sixth Grade Camp,” said Bridgepoint Education chief executive officer Andrew Clark. “So to be able to provide that opportunity for San Diego schoolchildren, who might not otherwise be able to attend an Outdoor Education program, is something we feel really good about. We’re pleased to help and support our community in this way.”

Beginning on May 17, the sixth graders of Foussatt Elementary will attend the historic Outdoor School located at Camp Cuyamaca in the mountains of East San Diego County. The Outdoor School, which is also known as Sixth Grade Camp, offers students one of the best outdoor education programs in the state of California. At the school, students learn about environmental studies, astronomy and physical fitness while participating in various fun hands-on activities.

“This is an exciting time for our Outdoor Education program,” said San Diego County superintendent of schools Randy Ward. “Outdoor School provides learning opportunities for children that can’t be duplicated in a regular classroom. The support from Bridgepoint means that more children are going to benefit from these great outdoor education programs.”

About the San Diego County Outdoor Education Program

The SDCOE’s Outdoor Education Programs are designed to help schools meet rigorous California academic content standards for science. Research shows that outdoor education improves student achievement and results in greater appreciation for the environment. All SDCOE Outdoor Education programs include hands-on learning opportunities for students, which in many cases, connect children with the natural world for the first time in their lives. These programs present ideal opportunities to introduce or expand on such topics as renewable energy, healthy eating and physical fitness and the local geography and history of the semi-wilderness areas of East San Diego County.
