Bridgepoint Education's University of the Rockies President Chosen as 2010 Diversity Champion

Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE:BPI), a provider of postsecondary education services, announced today that Dr. Charlita Shelton, president of its University of the Rockies academic institution, has received the “2010 Champions of Diversity Award.”

The award, presented by DiversityBusiness.com, is presented to leaders who provide solutions in diversity issues on a national level. Dr. Shelton, who has more than 20 years experience in diversity issues within the higher education industry, is one of 15 winners recognized for their commitment to promoting diversity in their companies and communities.

"Our philosophy is that all of those who are academically qualified deserve access to a high-quality higher education," Dr. Shelton, said. "We take pride that more than 40 percent of our University of the Rockies students belong to the underrepresented population. And, it's a great honor to be recognized as a leader of diversity in this field of advocates, which includes a myriad of industries."

In addition to student enrollment, Dr. Shelton spearheads a comprehensive program engaging administrators and faculty to encourage and support diversity in the workforce and global business community. She is committed to teaching diversity in the classroom, which ultimately results in more diversity advocates in the nation's workplace and worldwide community.

Throughout her career, Dr. Shelton's research and ideologies have been featured in industry publications and presentations. She has recently completed a landmark study providing insights into how family background, social support, academic integration and financial support influence African-American male college graduation rates.

“I am extremely excited about this year’s honoree list,” Kenton Clarke, chief executive officer of DiversityBusiness.com, said. “This recognition brings attention to real results provided by many different people representing all sectors of diversity who can quantify success made by their efforts.

"America should be proud of the results produced by the 'Champions' as well as others," he added. "They are deserving of this recognition and they continue to make our country the greatest place on earth to live."

The “2010 Champions of Diversity Award” winners will be honored at the 10th Annual Multicultural Business Conference being held April 27 – 29 in Washington, D.C.
